![]() ![]() It is a good thing the topic consists of opinions generalizing the concept of hack 'n slash in that case. ![]() I never played onibachira (however you spell it), so no comment on that game specifically.īut basically I'd call it a hack n slash unless it looks alot like double dragon, streets of rage, dragons crown, etc. ![]() Obviously this would apply to beatemups too, which is why I would think beatemups are a subset of hack n slash. Anyway, I think a hack n slash is pretty much a game that is very combat-oriented, where you're pretty much constantly in a state of character combat (so like, not ship combat or space combat, yet not melee because being a bow user or strict magician doesn't exclude hack n slash definition). I mean I don't think if everyone in diablo 4 was a fist-user, it would suddenly become a beatemup instead of a hack n slash. Using weapons or not sounds like a factor based on the names, but I don't think they really are. I think a hack n slash is more broad, where you can include games like diablo, Ys, Ninja Gaiden, etc. It's a game where you scroll along the stage beating up waves of enemies in the same style as double dragon, streets of rage, final fight, turtles in time, castle crashers, etc. With certainty however, a beatemup is pretty stict in its definition IMO. That's a good question, I never really thought about it. ![]()
